  1. Lions are the second-largest big cat species in the world, after tigers.
  2. There are approximately 20,000 lions left in the wild today.
  3. The roar of a lion can be heard from up to 5 miles away.
  4. Males can grow up to 11 feet long and weigh up to 550 pounds.
  5. Females are usually about 10 feet long and weigh up to 350 pounds.
  6. The biggest lion on record was almost 12 feet long and weighed 826 pounds.
