A butterfly is not a fly, but it can fly.
The word butterfly comes from the Old English word beterflye, meaning a creature having wings like a piece of butter.
All butterflies start out as caterpillars.
There are over 100 different types of butterfly eggs on earth.
A butterfly lays her eggs over damp surfaces, such as leaves, rocks and soil.
It takes about three months for a butterfly egg to develop into an adult insect.
